The Innova Wombat is a 5-speed understable midrange. With published flight numbers of 5 / 6 / -1 / 0, it is most often described as suited for long straight midrange shots, holding a line through an extended flight.

Overview

The Innova Wombat is a large-diameter 5 / 6 / -1 / 0 midrange built on a convex, beaded rim — Innova's VTech treatment applied to the Foxbat mold.[1][3] At 21.8 cm across with a 1.4 cm rim it is one of the wider midranges Innova has produced, and the 6 glide paired with zero fade is what defines it: straight shots stay straight and turnovers stay turned, landing flat rather than hooking.[1] Innova's stated aim for the convex rim was extra torque resistance over the Foxbat, with a hand feel that is easier to release cleanly.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Wombat's job is glide-driven distance without a finishing fade. Innova lists it as a best choice for straight shots, holding a line, and technical approaches.[1] That makes it a natural fit for long midrange shots where you want the disc to carry rather than turn over and drop, for gentle turnovers that need to stay turned, and for low-ceiling lines where a fading disc would run out of room. Its wide diameter gives it a slower, floatier feel than a Roc-class midrange.

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Wombat was approved by the PDGA on February 6, 2015 under certification 15-17, measuring 21.8 cm in diameter, 2.2 cm tall, with a 1.4 cm rim depth and 1.4 cm rim, capped at 180.9 g.[2] In his long-form Innova history, u/IsaacSam98 describes the Wombat bluntly as 'a Foxbat with a convex edge and a bead' that shares the Foxbat's flight numbers, and reports that it never sold well enough to survive — the Wombat3, which is a VTech Wombat rather than a flatter one, drove both the Wombat and the Foxbat out of production.[3] Innova nonetheless still maintains a live Wombat product page listing GStar at 165–180 g and Champion at 170–180 g, so both accounts are presented here as they stand.[1][3]
