The Innova Roc3 is a 5-speed overstable midrange. With published flight numbers of 5 / 4 / 0 / 3, it is most often described as suited for overstable approaches, headwind midranges.
Overview
The Innova Roc3 is the most overstable variant in the legendary Roc midrange family. With a strong 3 fade and neutral turn, it's a workhorse for shots that need to finish hard left (RHBH) without the rim of a fairway driver.
Flight characteristics
Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.
Recommended uses
Use the Roc3 for overstable approaches, headwind midranges, forehand work, and hyzer-flip approaches that need to come back. Champion plastic Roc3s are durable and retain stability for years; Star plastic beats in faster but offers more grip.
Best for:
- Overstable approaches
- Headwind midranges
- Forehand approaches
- Hyzer flips
Plastics & variants
The Roc3 is available in the following plastic blends from Innova:
Star, Champion, Pro, KC Pro
Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.
History
The Roc3, approved in 2011, is part of Innova's iconic Roc family that traces back to 1991. The original Roc, the Big Z Buzzz, and the Roc3 are often discussed as defining the midrange category in different eras of disc golf.
