The Mint Discs Jackalope is a 8-speed understable fairway driver. With published flight numbers of 8 / 5 / -2 / 1, it is most often described as suited for turnover lines through wooded fairways, tailwind drives where an understable disc gains distance.

The Mint Discs Jackalope is an understable fairway driver rated 8/5/-2/1.[1][2] Mint’s product copy is brief and identical across every run: “The Jackalope is our second fairway driver. It’s an easy thrower that will almost every skill level has a need for. The slightly understable flight makes it the ultimate line shaper in the woods and can provide big distance with a tail wind.”[2] The grammatical slip is Mint’s own. The PDGA measured it at 21.2cm across and just 1.5cm tall, with a 1.9cm rim and a 176.0g maximum — a genuinely shallow driver profile.[1] Retailers list it as beadless.[5]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Two points of turn on a speed-8 driver make the Jackalope a line-shaper rather than a distance bomber. Foundation Disc Golf describes it as having a “shallow rim that allows for a comfortable grip” and being “meant to hold the angle that you put it on as well as give you a lot of right turn.”[4] That makes it useful for wooded turnovers, tailwind drives, and rollers; Only the Best Discs notes it “gets some turn but isn’t extremely understable,” so it does not flip out of control at moderate power.[5] Mint sells the Jackalope by exact gram weight rather than in brackets, so a specific flight can be chosen precisely.

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Jackalope was approved on 19 January 2021 under certification 21-10.[1] Mint’s claim that it is “our second fairway driver” is consistent with the PDGA’s Mint Discs record: seven Mint molds were approved before it — Alpha (28 January 2017), Bobcat (31 January 2019), Profit (23 May 2019), Freetail (16 September 2019), Bullet and Mustang (both 26 March 2020) and Longhorn (12 August 2020) — of which Mint’s own site describes only the Alpha as a fairway driver.[3][2] The debut run was Sublime plastic, identifiable from Mint’s serial-number convention as SB-JL01-21, the same scheme that dates the later AP-JL01-22 Apex and NT-JL01-24 Nocturnal Glow runs.[2] Mint has published no launch blog post for the Jackalope, unlike the Profit, so no retail release date exists and 2021 is an approval year only. Mint has also never credited a designer, published an official weight range, or explained the name — the jackalope folklore connection is a retailer inference, not a Mint statement. There is no documented professional bagging one; Mint sold a “Des Reading Variant” lightweight Apex run, but a named variant stamp is not bag evidence, and that product page is now dead.[2] Flight numbers are unusually uncontested: Mint, Foundation, Only the Best Discs and Rogue Discs all print 8/5/-2/1.[2][4][5][6]
