The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Alpha is best used as a primary fairway driver for placement rather than maximum distance. On a flat release it tracks straight with minimal turn and a clean fade; on a gentle hyzer it holds the angle, and on slight anhyzer it flexes back reliably.[3] It handles typical sidearm torque without turning over, which makes it a strong forehand option for tight lines.[3] Newer players will find it slightly overstable and should expect a straight push into a dependable fade.[3]

History

Mint Discs is an Austin, Texas company founded in 2015 by friends Guy Boyan, Zach Jansen and Chris Herbert.[4] The Alpha was the first mold they designed and the first disc they released: the PDGA approved it on January 28, 2017 under certification number 17-13, and it went on sale in April 2017.[2][4] It remained Mint's only mold for roughly two years, until the Bobcat, Freetail and Profit were approved in 2019 and expanded the catalogue into midranges, distance drivers and putters.[4] Infinite Discs' 2021 brand profile compared the Alpha's straight, wind-resistant flight to molds like the TeeBird3, and positioned the later Jackalope as the flippier fairway alternative to it.[4] Mint produces the Alpha across its plastic families — Apex, Eternal, Sublime, the Nocturnal glow blend and the firmer Royal — and its serial-number system lets owners identify the exact run of any Alpha they own.[1][4]
