The Discmania FD (Fairway Driver) is a 7-speed stable fairway driver. With published flight numbers of 7 / 6 / -1 / 1, it is most often described as suited for straight fairway drives, tight wooded shots.

Overview

The Discmania FD, also called the Jackal in some markets and known affectionately as the 'Sensei,' is a stable, high-glide fairway driver that flies straight with minimal fade. Its 6 glide is unusually high for a 7-speed driver, making the FD remarkably distance-friendly.

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The FD is ideal for straight fairway lines, tight wooded shots, and players seeking a beginner-friendly control driver. C-Line plastic is firm and overstable when new; S-Line is softer and more neutral. Many bags include both for different stages of beat-in.

Best for:

  • Straight fairway drives
  • Tight wooded shots
  • Beginner-friendly distance

Plastics & variants

The FD (Fairway Driver) is available in the following plastic blends from Discmania:

S-Line, C-Line, G-Line, Active Premium

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

Approved in 2010 as part of Discmania's original 'Trinity' lineup (FD, MD, DD), the FD has been the go-to introductory fairway driver in the Discmania lineup since its release. Several signature and tour-series runs exist.
