The MVP Signal is a 6-speed understable fairway driver. With published flight numbers of 6 / 5 / -3 / 1, it is most often described as suited for beginner-friendly fairway distance, hyzer-flip lines that ride out flat.

Overview

The MVP Signal is an understable fairway driver rated 6/5/-3/1 and filed in MVP's 16 mm Fairway Drivers rim class.[2] MVP built it as the second mold in that beginner-friendly class, alongside the Relay and the Resistor, with the -3 turn doing the work: at moderate power the Signal flips up out of a hyzer and rides flat, and at higher power it turns and keeps turning.[2][4] The overmold construction gives it MVP's GYRO rim weighting; the PDGA records a 21.1 cm diameter and a shallow 1.5 cm height.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Signal is a distance disc for arms that cannot yet flatten out a stable fairway driver. Thrown on a slight hyzer it flips to flat and glides; thrown flat it produces a long turnover.[2] MVP describes the 16 mm class as “beginner-friendly,” and the disc's 155–175 g weight range makes light options easy to find.[2][4] It also rolls well off a steep anhyzer. Stronger players will find it too flippy for a headwind and should treat it as a turnover and roller specialist.

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The PDGA approved the Signal on February 2, 2016 under certification number 16-08, measuring 21.1 cm in diameter with a 1.5 cm height, 1.2 cm rim depth and a 1.7 cm rim thickness.[1] MVP announced it through the PDGA two days later, and the disc debuted in Neutron plastic in the 2016 MVP Circuit Event Series Player's Pack — Circuit-exclusive at first rather than a general retail release.[3][4] MVP introduced it as “the second model of our beginner-friendly 16mm driver class.”[4] No exact general-retail release date is documented. The Signal survived MVP's August 2019 lineup cull, which retired fifteen molds including the Relay's classmates Amp, Switch and Vector but not the Signal, and it remains in production with a 2026 Fission run.[5] MVP's own in-the-bag table lists Sarah Hokom and Madison Walker as team players who bag one; the same table gives Hokom's Signal as 176 g, which exceeds the PDGA 175.1 g limit and is almost certainly a data-entry error.[2]
