The Innova Firestorm is a 14-speed overstable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 14 / 4 / -1 / 3, it is most often described as suited for maximum-distance drives for high-power arms, long forehand drives.

Overview

The Innova Firestorm is a wide-rimmed speed-14 distance driver that Innova itself describes as a "faster, beat-in Destroyer."[2] Manufacturer flight numbers are 14 / 4 / -1 / 3, and IsaacSam's Innova guide records the same four numbers.[1][2] The PDGA measured a 2.3 cm rim — among the widest Innova produces — on a 21.1 cm disc standing just 1.5 cm tall, with a 1.1 cm rim depth.[3] Thrown low and level with enough speed, Innova says it holds a straight line before a forward-finishing fade.[2] IsaacSam frames it more bluntly: advanced players should see a Destroyer-like flight with a little more distance, but the extra-wide rim is far less forgiving of throwing errors.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Innova lists the Firestorm's best applications as long-range forehands, low-ceiling power drives and spike hyzers.[2] Extracting maximum distance from it demands both arm speed and angle control — IsaacSam warns the wide rim punishes release errors more than a Destroyer does, so it is not a disc to reach for while a form flaw is still being worked out.[1] Players with less power get something different from it: a "faster Firebird" utility driver, and a strong skip-shot disc thanks to the combination of a large rim and dependable stability.[1] Innova offers the mold only in Champion plastic, in a 165–175 g weight range.[2]

Champion

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The PDGA approved the Firestorm on 23 March 2017 under certification number 17-33, recording a 21.1 cm diameter, 1.5 cm height, 1.1 cm rim depth, a 2.3 cm rim and a 175.1 g maximum weight.[3] Innova's own product page gives the matching approval date of 03/23/17.[2] It landed in the middle of Innova's speed-14 group — the Corvette and Colossus share the same speed rating, both with more glide — and Innova has never offered the mold in any plastic other than Champion.[2] Adoption stayed narrow. Writing several years after release, IsaacSam noted that the Firestorm was not a popular Innova disc, that it had a small group of dedicated fans, that it remained in production, and that he had never seen one on tournament coverage; he judged it too soon to say whether the mold would become a long-term part of Innova's lineup.[1] It is still catalogued today.[2]
