The Innova Wedge is a 3.5-speed very understable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 3.5 / 3 / -3 / 1, it is most often described as suited for short turnover approaches that need touch, low-profile putting for smaller hands.

Overview

The Innova Wedge is an understable putt-and-approach disc rated 3.5/3/-3/1 — the only mold Innova rates at speed 3.5.[2] Innova describes it as "wedged in between a Putter and Mid-Range," easy to grip and release for smaller hands or players who prefer a low profile, with "a great neutral flight" when used as a putter.[2] IsaacSam calls it "an extremely understable approach disc with minimal glide, designed for short turnover approach shots that require touch," and treats it as the spiritual successor to the Innova Wolf.[1] The PDGA measured it at 21.2cm across with a 1.7cm height and an unusually thin 1.0cm rim.[3]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Wedge is a touch disc. Innova recommends it as an all-around option for beginners because of its straight flight and minimal fade, and as "an accurate Mid-Range roller and turn over Mid-Range flyer for more advanced players."[2] Team Innova's Gregg Hosfeld describes "a very smooth release and a terrific low speed under-stable glide that will allow me to keep a straight, or even right-turn at approach speeds," placing it between the Hammer and the Roc in his upshot lineup.[2] IsaacSam stresses it is built for short turnover approaches rather than distance.[1]

Star, DX

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Wedge was PDGA-approved on 9 December 2010 under certification 10-41.[3] IsaacSam notes it was the first time Innova extended its internal mold-lettering scheme from N to Q, and that a second purpose of the disc was to serve Innova's EDGE school program.[1] It never became a mainstream seller — IsaacSam writes that it "was a bit too weird for it to remain in production," though Innova still runs limited batches fairly often, with Star Wedge the most sought-after version.[1] Innova's own page lists Star and DX in 150–175g.[2] IsaacSam raises an unverified hypothesis that the Wedge is a flatter, faster reworking of the original 1980s Innova Ace mold based on side-by-side mold breakdowns, and explicitly flags that he could not confirm it — Discpedia repeats it only as his speculation.[1]
