The Axiom Time-Lapse is a 12-speed stable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 12 / 5 / -1 / 2, it is most often described as suited for max-distance backhand drives for high-power arms, headwind drives.

Overview

The Time-Lapse is the first disc in Axiom's Simon Line, designed with Simon Lizotte, and the first 12-speed distance driver MVP has produced.[1] It runs a 22mm rim with the GYRO overmold and a 1.2cm grip depth.[1][2] Axiom now lists it at 12 / 5 / -1 / 2 following a 2025 retool; the original 2023 run was stamped 12 / 5 / -1 / 3, and Infinite Discs still shows those numbers and classes the disc as overstable.[1][4] Axiom's current label for the retooled mold is stable.[1] Retailers distinguish the two runs, marking leftover first-run stock as the original mold.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Axiom pitches the Time-Lapse both ways: a controllable max-distance driver for high-power arms, and a wind fighter for players who cannot turn a 12-speed over.[1] The dome makes it comfortable on backhand drives, and Axiom calls it a flex-line option.[1] James Conrad's bag notes describe it as his windy-weather spike hyzer disc, flying roughly 400 to 450 feet on a flat hammer throw and finishing more predictably than his Mayhem.[5] Lower-power players use it for short, sharp utility hyzers.[5]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

Axiom certified the Time-Lapse with the PDGA on August 21, 2023 under certification 23-212, and released it that October.[2][1] The first production run did not fly the way the prototypes had, and MVP said so publicly. In a July 2025 Lab Report, co-founder Brad Richardson wrote that Simon Lizotte had approved the original prototypes but that the first prototype run flew differently, and that the first release "missed the mark on intended stability."[3] He traced it to two causes: parting-line flash 0.8 to 1.0mm thick that made accurate measurement impossible with the gauges MVP had, and melt-flow index variance in the TPU that colorant pigments made worse.[3] MVP bought a laser microscope in November 2023 to profile the nose, tightened its plastic tolerances beyond what the supplier specified, and moved color dosing in house.[3] After more than a year the company concluded the original prototype could not be reproduced, and retooled the mold with Lizotte: a shoulder-angle change of under two degrees plus parting-line adjustments on the order of 100 microns.[3] The retooled version carries the revised flight numbers.[1]
