The Mint Discs Taco is a 5-speed slightly overstable midrange. With published flight numbers of 5 / 5 / 0 / 2, it is most often described as suited for wind-resistant midrange shots on exposed holes, hyzer approaches that need a bead to hold the line.

Overview

The Mint Discs Taco is a beaded midrange rated 5/5/0/2 by Mint.[2] It is the company’s first beaded midrange — Mint’s launch copy reads: “The Taco is here! This is our first beaded midrange and it fits nicely between the Mustang and Bobcat.”[2] Mint frames it explicitly as a Mustang with more stability: “For Mustang fans, it should feel just like a mustang in the hand but with a lot more high speed and wind stability.”[2] The PDGA measured it at 21.4cm across, 1.9cm tall, with a 1.4cm rim and a 177.6g maximum.[1] Retailers describe the bead as the disc’s defining grip and stability feature.[3][4]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Taco is a wind-resistant midrange for players who want a bead under the finger. It suits exposed holes where glide gets punished, hyzer approaches that must hold their line, and forehand placement shots inside 250ft.[2][4] Disc Store describes it as building “upon the success of the beloved Mustang midrange” by “offering enhanced high-speed stability and unparalleled wind resistance.”[4] It is not a straight-line disc — the 2 fade is consistent across every published rating.[2][3][4]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Taco was PDGA-approved on 27 April 2023 under certification 23-126.[1] Mint has published no blog post, press release or dated launch announcement for the mold, so no retail release date is asserted here; the only Mint-side run listing carries the serial AP-TC01-24, which under Mint’s plastic-mold-run-year convention indicates run 01 of 2024.[2] No designer has been credited. The name almost certainly traces to Mint co-founder Guy “Taco” Boyan — Mint’s own 2019 artist-series post says “you always knew Guy was around if you heard the ‘Taco!!!’ shouts echoing across the course” — and a Guy Boyan Signature Series Taco exists at retail, but Mint has never stated in writing that the mold is named for him, so the connection is presented as circumstantial.[5] Flight numbers are unusually consistent: Mint, Foundation, Disc Store and Marshall Street all print 5/5/0/2.[2][3][4] Labels are not — Foundation calls it stable, Disc Store calls it “this beaded overstable midrange,” and Mint itself uses neither word.[3][4] One further caution: Mint and some retailers sell 178g and heavier Tacos even though the PDGA maximum is 177.6g.[1][2] Mint’s own store currently lists the Taco only in Apex plastic; Eternal and Sublime appear at retail.
