The Thought Space Athletics Synapse is a 12-speed overstable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 12 / 5 / 0 / 3, it is most often described as suited for full-power hyzer drives that must finish left, headwind tee shots on open holes.

Overview

The Synapse is Thought Space Athletics’ overstable maximum-distance driver, rated 12/5/0/3 by TSA.[2][3] It was the company’s entry into the fast-driver slot — TSA calls it “our first offering in our 12-speed distance driver category” and describes it as “stable enough to handle big arm speed or stiff headwind, with just a hint of high-speed turn.”[2] TSA positions it as “bridging the gap between the Animus and your favorite overstable high speed driver.”[2] The PDGA measured it at 21.2cm across with a 2.3cm rim, a 1.6cm height and a 176.0g maximum.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Synapse is a power driver for players who can already reach distance and need the disc to finish. It is built for full-power hyzer drives, headwind tee shots on open holes, long forehands, and flex lines thrown hard.[2][3] TSA’s current molds page describes it as offering “dependable stability and a strong finish” that “inspire confidence in headwinds and high-speed distance shots.”[3] Players without the arm speed to turn a speed-12 rim over will only see the fade.[4]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Synapse was PDGA-approved on 10 January 2022 under certification 22-4 and released that year.[1] The PDGA has no new-disc announcement page for it, and Thought Space Athletics has never published a designer credit or a dated launch post, so 2022 rests on the approval record plus retailer listings dated to March and April 2022.[1] Within TSA’s current driver lineup — Construct, Expanse, Animus, Requiem and Synapse — the Synapse carries the highest fade, though it is not the line’s only speed-12 mold: the Requiem shares that speed.[3] There is a real and persistent conflict over turn. TSA publishes 0 on both its product and molds pages, while Marshall Street, OTB Discs and Disc Golf Dojo all print -1.5 and Foundation Disc Golf prints -1.[2][3][4][5] TSA’s own prose muddies this further by describing “just a hint of high-speed turn” on a disc it rates 0.[2] The manufacturer’s numbers are used here. TSA currently stocks the mold only in Ethereal and Nebula Ethereal; Ethos, Aura, Nebula Aura and Glow runs are historical.[2] Matt Bell received a 2022 Nebula Aura signature Synapse, but a signature stamp is not bag evidence, so no throwers are claimed here.
