The Discmania PD (Power Driver) is a 10-speed overstable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 10 / 5 / 0 / 3, it is most often described as suited for power forehand drives, overstable hyzer drives.
Overview
The Discmania PD, originally known as the Power Driver, is one of disc golf's most beloved overstable distance drivers. Released alongside Discmania's launch in 2009, the PD has earned a reputation for bulletproof reliability and a fade that comes in hard without sacrificing glide.
Flight characteristics
Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.
Recommended uses
The PD is the disc to reach for when a line absolutely cannot turn over: power forehand approaches, spike hyzers around guardian trees, and overstable shots into wind. C-Line plastic is the firm, long-lived workhorse; S-Line offers a touch more grip and glide.
Best for:
- Power forehand drives
- Overstable hyzer drives
- Headwind shots
- Spike hyzers
Plastics & variants
The PD (Power Driver) is available in the following plastic blends from Discmania:
S-Line, C-Line, G-Line, Swirly S-Line
Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.
History
Originally manufactured by Innova for Discmania, the PD shares heritage with several classic Innova molds and is sometimes considered a sibling of older overstable drivers. Discmania's later move to in-house production preserved the mold's flight character.
Notable throwers
Simon Lizotte (historically), Eagle McMahon (historically)
