The Prodigy PA-5 is a 3-speed understable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 3 / 4 / -2 / 0.5, it is most often described as suited for slow turnover approach shots, dead-straight hyzerflips inside 250ft.

Overview

The PA-5 is the most understable putter in Prodigy’s lineup, rated 3/4/-2/0.5.[2][5] The PDGA measured it at 21.4cm across, 1.9cm tall, with a 1.4cm rim depth, a 0.9cm rim and a 177.6g maximum.[1] Prodigy’s copy on every PA-5 listing reads: “The PA-5 is a silky smooth understable putter that will hit beautiful slow turnover lines and dead straight hyzerflips. It has a narrow feel in the hand for an easy release.”[2] The 21.4cm diameter is the PDGA maximum, so the narrow feel comes from the 0.9cm rim rather than from a small disc.[1][2]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The PA-5 covers the shots a stable putter fights. Slow turnover lines, hyzerflips that finish dead straight, and long approaches where the 4 glide carries further than a beaded putter would.[2] Prodigy also positions it as a putting putter: it “fits players who like a straight putter with little movement right or left out of the hand, and it works nicely from long distance.”[2] Marshall Street sums up the throwing case as a “shallow, understable putter in durable 400 plastic.”[5]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The PA-5 was PDGA-approved on 4 April 2022 under certification 22-49, filed under its retail name rather than an internal one.[1] Prodigy has published no dated release announcement and credits no designer, though first-run stamped 300 and 400 discs exist and are consistent with a 2022 launch.[2] Its place in the lineup is set by Prodigy’s naming system, which the company documented in October 2023: models run “from 1 to 9, with ‘1’ being the most overstable ... and ‘9’ being the most understable.”[3] The published numbers track that claim across the whole PA series, stepping from the PA-1 at 3/3/0/2.5 down through the PA-4 at 3/3/-1/1 to the PA-5.[3] Prodigy’s own store filter tags all live PA-5 listings understable, and Foundation states outright that it “is the most understable putter in Prodigy’s lineup.”[2] Two data problems are worth flagging. Disc Golf Puttheads contradicts itself, printing 3/4/-2/0.5 in its prose and 3/4/-3/0 in the spec table directly below.[4] Prodigy’s 400 Plastic page shows a weight range with no lower bound, and the same disc is sold as 350G by Prodigy and as 300 Firm by Marshall Street after the 2023 plastic consolidation.[2][5] Will Schusterick has carried PA-5 signature stamps since 2024, but a stamp is not bag evidence.
