The Kastaplast Nord is a 5-speed overstable midrange. With published flight numbers of 5 / 4 / 0 / 3, it is most often described as suited for hyzer tee shots on shorter holes, long approach shots that must finish left.

Overview

The Kastaplast Nord is a 5/4/0/3 overstable midrange and the heavy-finishing member of Kastaplast's midrange line.[2][3] Kastaplast's own copy sums it up as "this power friendly mid range companion takes you to the target without any detours" and adds the line "Nord, trustworthy as a hammer."[2] The product page is more specific about the role: "when you need to power up on the shorter holes or the long approach shots, Nord is the disc to reach for. With more resistance and heavier flight this midrange disc complements the Svea and Göte."[3] The name is simply the Swedish word for north.[3] At 21.7 cm with a 1.3 cm rim and a 1.3 cm rim depth it is a full-size, beadless mid.[1][4]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Kastaplast lists the Nord as suitable for "hyzer tee shots and headwind battles," and that is the honest summary.[3] The 3 fade with zero turn means it will not flip up on a hard forehand or in a stiff wind, so it works as the overstable anchor next to a straighter mid rather than as a general-purpose fairway tool. It is also useful on long approaches where a gliding neutral mid would sail past the basket. Disc Golf Puttheads notes the beadless rim and predictable finish make it forgiving for less powerful throwers too.[4]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The PDGA approved the Nord on 19 February 2024 under certification number 24-33, recording a 21.7 cm diameter, 2.0 cm height, 1.3 cm rim depth, a 1.3 cm rim and a 180.1 g maximum weight.[1] It was Kastaplast's first new mold of 2024 and slots into the midrange line alongside the Göte and Svea, which Kastaplast's own product copy explicitly names as its companions.[3] As with several recent Kastaplast releases, the company's news blog carries no launch post for the Nord, so there is no manufacturer-stated retail date here — only the approval date. The mold is in full production: Kastaplast's Nord collection currently lists nine products across K1, K1 Glow, K1 Hard and K3 Hard, including a DIY run, an X-out run, a Moominmamma Worlds edition and a Gavin Phillips Tour Series 2026 run.[2] A signature stamp is not evidence that a professional bags a mold, so no notable throwers are claimed. Two data notes: the collection page's own plastics filter offers no K3 Hard bucket even though a K3 Hard Nord is listed on it, and Disc Golf Puttheads lists only K1 and K1 Glow, missing the two harder blends.[2][4] Kastaplast publishes only two weight brackets, 173–176 g and 177 g-plus, and stocks the heavier one far more deeply — the range above is derived from those brackets.[2]
