The Giant is Westside's overstable speed-13 distance driver, listed at 13 / 4 / 0 / 3.5 on the company's own product page.[1] Westside calls it their most reliable overstable high-speed driver and says it is made for giant hyzer lines, the go-to hyzer disc past 350 feet for professional arms and a utility disc for slower ones.[1] The PDGA record puts it at 21.1cm across on a 2.3cm rim with a 175.1 gram cap.[2] Disc Golf Puttheads files it as very overstable and reports minimal high-speed turn even under full power.[3]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Giant shapes shots rather than adding distance. Westside points at long hyzer lines and forehands, saying many players find it holds the high speed of a forehand release without flipping over.[1] Disc Golf Puttheads adds headwind tee shots, forced flex lines, spike hyzers and skip finishes.[3] Slower arms will see it fade early and hard, which is useful when you want a guaranteed finish but not when you want carry.[1][3] It holds an angle in wind that a straighter driver will not.

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The PDGA approved the Giant on March 25, 2012 under certification 12-16, filed as "Giant (Vipunen1)".[2] The parenthetical comes from Westside's own naming. The company notes that Giant in Finnish is Vipunen, a giant from the Kalevala, and that Arto Hoffrén drew the stock artwork in 2011.[1] The mold has stayed in production for over a decade; Westside currently lists it in Tournament and VIP plastics, including a lightweight VIP Kids run.[1] Flight numbers vary by source and by run. Westside's product page and Disc Golf Puttheads both give 13 / 4 / 0 / 3.5, while retailer listings for the VIP Air version show 13 / 5 / 1 / 4.[1][3][4] Westside later released a separate, less overstable mold called the Giant Reborn.[1]
