The Prodigy F7 is a 8-speed understable fairway driver. With published flight numbers of 8 / 6 / -3 / 1, it is most often described as suited for hyzer-flip drives that stand up and finish flat or right, rollers.

Overview

The Prodigy F7 is a medium-speed understable fairway driver rated 8 / 6 / -3 / 1 by the manufacturer — the same four numbers carried in its 86-31 model code.[1][2] Prodigy describes it as "a medium speed, understable fairway driver with substantial glide" and "a great choice for recreational and beginner players."[1] It shares the F-series footprint exactly: a 21.3 cm diameter, 1.5 cm height, 1.1 cm rim depth and a 1.8 cm rim, so it feels the same in hand as the stable F3 while flying considerably flippier.[1][3] The PDGA records a 176.8 g maximum weight and a 17.8 cm inside rim diameter.[3] Third-party flight databases publish the same rating.[4]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Prodigy pitches the F7 directly at turn-over shots and rollers, and a -3 turn against just 1 fade makes it a natural hyzer-flip driver for arms that cannot yet overpower a stable fairway mold.[1] It is one of the more accessible routes to fairway-driver distance for a newer player, since the disc's own turn does the work that arm speed would otherwise have to supply. Prodigy offers it across an unusually broad plastic range — 200, 300, 400, 500, AIR and ReBlend — and in weights from the 150–159 g bracket up to 170–176 g, so the same mold can be dialled from a light roller to a stiffer premium version.[2]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The F7 was PDGA-approved on 6 July 2013 under certification number 13-48, one number after its stable sibling the F3, as part of Prodigy Disc's first wave of molds through certification.[3][5] The certification record lists a 21.3 cm diameter, 1.5 cm height, 1.1 cm rim depth, a 1.8 cm rim, a 17.8 cm inside rim diameter and a 176.8 g maximum weight.[3] The mold has stayed in production continuously since and is now among the most heavily stocked discs in Prodigy's fairway line: the company's own store lists fifteen separate F7 SKUs spanning six plastic families, including Fractal, GLOW and Spectrum aesthetic runs, plus dedicated seconds and misprint listings.[2] Prodigy still catalogues it as "86-31" alongside the F1, F2, F3, F5 and F9.[2]
