The Westside Crown is a 3-speed stable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 3 / 4 / 0 / 1, it is most often described as suited for putting with a beaded rim for a defined grip point, straight approach shots with a gentle finish.

Overview

The Westside Crown is a 3/4/0/1 beaded putt and approach disc.[2][3] Westside's own copy is brief and unambiguous about who it is for: "the Crown is a putter for players that like a beaded rim putter, stable flight, and consistency. A stable flyer with a good glide makes it a great tool in every bag."[2] The bead is the distinguishing feature against Westside's beadless putters, giving a defined grip point at the rim. The PDGA records it at 21.2 cm diameter, 2.0 cm height, 1.4 cm rim depth and a slim 1.0 cm rim, with a 176.0 g maximum weight.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Use the Crown as a putting putter first — Westside's pitch is simply to "choose the Crown to make all your important putts."[2] Off the tee and on approaches, the 4 glide and single fade give it a straight line with a soft, controllable finish rather than an abrupt one, which suits touch shots on tight wooded holes and hyzer upshots inside 200 feet. The BT plastics run soft to hard, so the same mold can be set up as a grippy putting disc or a firmer approach disc depending on blend.[2]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The PDGA approved the Crown on 22 February 2017 under certification number 17-18, registering it with its Finnish subtitle as "Crown (Kruunu1)" — the same naming convention the PDGA uses for the Queen, Boatman and Shield, and unlike the Maiden and Gatekeeper, which are filed under plain English names.[1] Westside confirms the translation on every Crown product page: "Crown in Finnish language is Kruunu."[2] The stamp art follows Westside's Kalevala theme; the company's artwork note describes it as "the Crown of Lemminkainen from Finnish national epic Kalevala" and credits the drawing to Arto Hoffrén in 2016.[2] Westside publishes no release date — a retailer places the retail launch at 31 March 2017 in BT Soft, BT Medium and BT Hard, which is noted here as retailer-sourced rather than official.[4] The mold remains in production: Westside's Crown collection currently lists six products across BT Hard, BT Medium, BT Soft, BT Medium Orbit and a VIP Kids run, while the Origio Burst Crown page is live but sold out.[2] Westside publishes only two weight brackets, 170–172 g and 173 g-plus.[2] No professional bagging the Crown is documented anywhere, and there is no signature or tour-series Crown stamp, so no notable throwers are claimed. One retailer conflict to flag: Gotta Go Gotta Throw's spec table labels the Crown overstable, which contradicts both Westside's own "stable flight" copy and Disc Golf Puttheads' Stable tag on identical flight numbers.[3][5]
