The Dynamic Discs Marshal is a 3-speed stable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 3 / 4 / 0 / 1, it is most often described as suited for putting with a micro-bead grip point, laser-straight putter drives from the tee.

Overview

The Dynamic Discs Marshal is a 3/4/0/1 putt and approach disc, and its reason for existing is the rim.[2][3] Dynamic Discs puts it plainly: "to bead or not to bead. This is one of the most fundamental questions in disc golf. While the Judge and Warden from Dynamic Discs each have their own opinion, the Marshal comes to establish peace in this fight. The microbead and slim profile of the Marshal makes for a disc that feels and releases great," with "more stability than one would expect from this profile."[2] Disc Golf Puttheads places it "neatly between the Judge and Warden in stability."[3] The PDGA records 21.2 cm diameter, 2.0 cm height, a 1.6 cm rim depth and a 176.0 g maximum weight.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Dynamic Discs lists the Marshal for "straight approaches, holding lines, stable putts."[2] Puttheads' reviewer found its strongest suit off the tee rather than in the circle: thrown flat "the disc flies on a very straight line with minimal turn and minimal fade — this may be the straightest disc flight I've been able to produce."[4] Inside the circle it suits both push and spin putters and holds up in moderate wind, though the same review advises looking elsewhere in high wind.[4] Shorter approaches tend to fade a little earlier than expected, so it rewards practice at touch distances.[4]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Marshal was PDGA approved on 2 March 2016 under certification number 16-23 and was introduced to players through the 2016 Trilogy Challenge player pack before reaching general retail.[1][4] Its name and stamp continue Dynamic Discs' law-enforcement naming convention alongside the Judge, Warden, Sheriff and Deputy, and its design brief was explicitly a compromise between the heavily beaded Judge and the beadless Warden.[2] Disc Golf Puttheads, reviewing it in January 2017, described the micro-bead as effectively unnoticeable in hand and compared the flight to "a Judge without turn."[4] It has run in Prime and the Classic family — Classic, Classic Blend, Classic Soft and Classic Super Soft all appear in the PDGA's certification photo record — with orbit and burst variants added later.[1][2] One source conflict to flag: the Puttheads flight-chart table prints 3|3|0|1 while the same page's text and Dynamic Discs' own product data both give 3|4|0|1, which is the figure used here.[2][3]
