The Discmania Enigma is a 12-speed stable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 12 / 5 / -1 / 2, it is most often described as suited for long hyzer-flip drives on open holes, sweeping anhyzer and turnover lines.

Overview

The Discmania Enigma is a 12-speed distance driver and the first distance driver Discmania released in its Evolution line.[2] Its 12/5/-1/2 flight is deliberately less overstable than the pro-level 12-speeds it was designed to sit alongside; Discmania's own pitch is aimed squarely at players "struggling with the out-of-the-box overstability of some of the most popular Pro level distance drivers out there."[2] Discmania describes the flight as glide with turn at the start, stability gradually taking over, then a fade to finish — a shape that lets one mold hold hyzers or anhyzers depending on release angle.[3]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Enigma is a hyzer-flip bomber and a long, workable turnover disc rather than a wind-fighting utility driver. Discmania recommends it for both hyzers and anhyzers, and says experienced and "relatively new" players alike can get the full flight out of it.[3] Because the -1 turn does its work early, it wants a flat, smooth release; over-torqued it will burn over. Reach for it on open holes where you want distance without the early fight of an overstable 12-speed.[2]

Neo

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The PDGA approved the Enigma on 23 May 2019 under certification number 19-45, measuring 21.1 cm across with a 1.6 cm height, 1.1 cm rim depth, a 2.2 cm rim and a 175.1 g maximum weight.[1] Discmania's own collection page reproduces that specification block exactly and dates the approval to 2019 — a clean match to the PDGA record.[2] The mold's identity has since changed. Discmania states that the Enigma "is being transitioned from our Evolution line to the Originals line" and that "in the future you'll find new releases of this same mold under the name DD2."[2] That creates a naming collision worth knowing about: Discmania's own site simultaneously lists a current DD2 at 12/5/-1/2 (the renamed Enigma) and an out-of-production DD2 at 13/5/-2/2 (the older, unrelated mold).[4] Stock Enigmas are sold in Evolution Neo plastic at 173 g and up; the Lux Vapor and Neo Lumen runs were special editions and are sold out, and Discmania lists the Lux Vapor run at 0 turn rather than -1.[2][3]
