The Prodigy D6 is a 12-speed very understable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 12 / 6 / -3 / 2, it is most often described as suited for maximum-distance drives at moderate arm speed, long controlled rollers.

The Prodigy D6 is a very understable distance driver with flight numbers of 12 / 6 / -3 / 2.[1] Prodigy’s own description says it “will flip up when thrown hard, turn towards the right (for right-handed throwers) and then go into an extremely long glide, with a gentle draw finish to the left,” and adds that it is “a great disc for long controlled rollers.”[1] Infinite Discs classifies it as very understable and recommends it for beginners and intermediates.[3] Retailers disagree on the numbers: Marshall Street lists the D6 as 12 / 6 / -4 / 1 instead.[4]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The D6 is a turnover and distance disc for players who cannot yet flip a stable speed-12 driver. Prodigy’s naming-system blog advises that beginners should look at discs numbered four and higher within a series, which places the D6 near the forgiving end of the distance range.[2] It suits maximum-distance drives at moderate arm speed, long turnover lines, hyzerflip drives and rollers. The 2.4 cm rim still needs a fast, clean release, so a player who cannot generate driver speed will not see the distance the numbers suggest. Prodigy currently offers it in 400 plastic and a 750G club edition.[1]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The D6 was PDGA-approved on May 13, 2016 as certification 16-46.[5] It sits at the understable end of Prodigy’s numbered distance series. The company’s naming-system blog, posted October 13, 2023, states that “disc model names start with a letter representing the disc’s series, followed by a number designating the disc’s stability,” with 1 the most overstable and 9 the most understable; that gives a progression from the D1 at 12 / 5 / 0 / 4 through the D4 at 12 / 5 / -2 / 2 to the D6.[2] The same blog lists the D6 as unchanged in Prodigy’s 2023 lineup-wide renumbering.[2] Two related molds hold their own PDGA records: a retooled D6 V2 approved December 16, 2018, and a wider D6 Max approved January 31, 2019.[5] The D6 remains in production. No source names a designer.
