The Latitude 64 Culverin is an overstable fairway driver currently rated 9/5/-0.5/3.[3] Latitude 64 positions it deliberately between two extremes: “a lot of fairway drivers fly too straight, and a lot of them are too overstable. The Culverin fits right between those two segments.”[3] For advanced players the first half of the flight runs straight before a dependable fade. Note that the original 2016 release copy quoted by the PDGA listed the turn as 0 rather than -0.5, so the −0.5 figure appears to be a later official revision rather than an error.[2][3]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Latitude 64's own guidance is long S-curves finishing with a strong fade, slightly overstable fairway shots and consistent tee shots — plus cycling multiple discs of different stabilities through a bag.[2][3] It is filed as an Expert-level mold, so it rewards arm speed: a 9-speed with a 2.0 cm rim and a 3 fade will hyzer out early for lower-power throwers. It is a good headwind fairway option and a natural forehand disc.[3]

History

The PDGA approved the Culverin on January 15, 2016 under certification number 16-04, and the PDGA published its “Fire Away with Culverin” release announcement on January 8, 2016 — that announcement states approval as of January 7, which conflicts with the January 15 date in the PDGA's own database; the database record is the canonical one.[1][2] A second data problem is worth flagging: Latitude 64's Opto-Ice Culverin product page carries a “PDGA Specifications” block showing certification 08-32 and an approval date of November 12, 2008, with dimensions that do not match this mold at all — an apparent store-template error. Use the PDGA database figures.[1][4] The Culverin's production status is contested. Latitude 64's own disc directory still lists it as a current overstable fairway driver and the Opto-Ice run remains for sale, but Infinite Discs marks the mold out of production, and a January 2025 Latitude 64 retirement email circulated on Disc Golf Course Review names the Culverin among molds being retired.[5][6] No designer credit appears on any official page.[3]
